General Responsibilities:

Perform assignments that involve applying general engineering calculations, technical knowledge, and project monitoring with a narrow scope and specified objectives. Perform direct customer interactions and technical assignments for pressure complaints and system flow testing. Schedule appointments with commercial and residential customers. Coordinates and performs hydrant flow tests requested by fire departments. Conduct fire flow and hydrostatic testing to measure, record and verify the water pressures and flow within the distribution system. Perform field investigations to troubleshoot system function anomalies. Assist in system map maintenance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform various tasks utilizing tools such as pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, shovels, hammers, corporation stop keys and valve keys
  • Remove and reinstall ” and smaller water meters, properly operate fire hydrants and operate ” and smaller system valves
  • Create and manage your schedule to follow up with customers regarding water pressure complaints Must log and keep accurate records regarding case resolutions
  • Conduct field investigations to troubleshoot system anomalies such as water pressure fluctuations and problems with pumping and pressure-reducing operations Install, monitor, and report results from pressure recording devices
  • Conduct flow tests of hydrants and meters and perform mathematical engineering calculations necessary to determine the pressure and volume of water available to customers Initiate residential service line relay requests when applicable
  • Develop and publish communications to customers about pressure complaints, including follow-up on resolution
  • Conduct flow tests of hydrants to establish hydraulic analyses and studies and to determine system robustness Document the results and provide information on fire flow tests, as requested
  • Communicate hydrant testing results with local fire departments to ensure public safety
  • Maintain material, equipment, and tools properly Regularly test all applicable equipment as recommended by the manufacturer
  • Use Excel, Word, Outlook email and calendar, Telog Software, and SAP for customer accounts and work orders
  • Maintain necessary records and perform other administrative duties
  • Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
  • Work overtime, weekends or during emergencies, if required
  • Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

Certifications

Valid Driver’s License required
ADEM Grade 1 Certification required or must obtain within 12 months of hire date

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience with piping, meters, valve locations and field activities of the distribution system, including customer service required. Ability to calculate to determine pressure and flow.  Business Software knowledge preferred. 

 

Knowledge and familiarity of all the following required:

  • Plumbing systems and piping arrangements, including PRVs, pumps, water heaters, thermal expansion tanks, backflow devices, valves, meter settings and meters.
  • BWWB system pressure gradients, including pumping stations, pressure-reducing stations and tanks. BWWB SCADA, detail pages, line maps, valve maps and valve cards.

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, twist, and climb for extended periods
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
